PM Modi gifted projects worth Rs 4,700 crore to Chandigarh, said – this state is a model of India’s development
Chandigarh, July 17. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 4,700 crore related to health, education and road infrastructure in Chandigarh. On this occasion he said that Chandigarh is not just a city but a model of development for India. The NDA government has always given priority to the overall development of Chandigarh.
Systematic development and recognition of better lifestyle
PM Modi said that Chandigarh is known for systematic development, better lifestyle and excellent medical facilities. The identity of the city is linked to modern facilities as well as the blessings of Mother Chandi. The development of Chandigarh has always been one of the priorities of the NDA government.
Indian Judicial Code started from Chandigarh
He said that about one and a half years ago, a major reform was made in the judicial system of the country and the Indian Judicial Code was implemented in place of the Penal Code. He told that this new justice based system started from Chandigarh itself.
Smart City Mission changed the picture of the city
The Prime Minister said that in the last years, work has been done to make Chandigarh hi-tech through many projects like Integrated Command and Control Centre, Smart Traffic Management, Smart Parking and Digital Governance. He said that more than Rs 2,500 crore has been spent on these initiatives.
Center of healing and development for the entire region
PM Modi said that Chandigarh is virtually an important hub connecting the people of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The benefits of the city’s development are not limited to the local people only, but citizens of the entire region benefit from it, especially in the area of health services.
Enumerated the achievements of Swachh Bharat Mission
He said that health and cleanliness complement each other. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched in 2014, crores of toilets were built across the country, work was done to end the problem of open defecation and extensive campaigns were run for the cleanliness of public places. He said that Swachh Bharat ranking is also a part of this effort and Chandigarh has been continuously striving for better performance.
Appreciation of ‘Broom Warrior’ Inderjit Singh Sidhu
Prime Minister Modi praised retired Chandigarh IPS officer Inderjit Singh Sidhu and said that he has created new awareness among the people towards cleanliness as ‘Broom Warrior’. He said that the government has honored him with the Padma Award this year for his contribution in the field of cleanliness. Cleanliness is not a one day campaign, but a way of life.
Chandigarh will become a big center of education and innovation
PM Modi said that Chandigarh is one of the few cities where major institutions related to education, engineering, medical science and research are present together. He expressed confidence that in the coming times these institutions will emerge as major centers of new technology, healthcare, startups and innovation.
