PM Modi holds meeting with Economic Advisory Council, discusses India’s economic strength

New Delhi, 6th June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met with members of the ‘Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council’ (EAC-PM) to discuss measures to accelerate India’s economic growth amid global uncertainties. Official sources gave this information. EAC-PM members also presented an assessment of the impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia on India and the world.

PM Modi and members of his advisory council discussed several ideas and policy measures to strengthen economic growth amid the current global circumstances. Sources said that in this meeting various reforms related to further improving ‘ease of living’ and ‘ease of doing business’ were also discussed.

The EAC is an independent body that advises the Government of India, particularly the Prime Minister, on economic and related issues. Apart from the members of the Advisory Council, Principal Secretaries to the Prime Minister – P.K. Mishra and Shaktikanta Das also participated.

At present the EAC consists of a Chairman, three full-time members and 11 part-time members. Its head S. Mahendra Dev, while Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Sanjeev Sanyal and Shamika Ravi are the full-time members. The 11 part-time members of the council include Rakesh Mohan, Sajid Z Chinoy, Neelkanth Mishra, Nilesh Shah, TT Ram Mohan, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, KV Raju, Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Pulak Ghosh and Gaurav Vallabh.

The mandate of the EAC includes analyzing and advising on any economic or other issue referred to it by the Prime Minister, and presenting views on issues of macroeconomic importance. These actions can be taken either on the basis of suo motu cognizance or on reference from the Prime Minister or anyone else. The Council also performs other functions assigned by the Prime Minister from time to time.
