PM Modi Inaugurates 594-km Ganga Expressway, Boosting Connectivity Across Uttar Pradesh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, one of India’s longest high-speed corridors, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
The project is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity and drive economic growth across the state.
High-Speed Corridor to Transform Travel
Developed as a six-lane expressway with provisions for expansion to eight lanes, the corridor is designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph. The expressway will reduce travel time, improve road safety, and enable smoother movement of passengers and goods.
It connects 12 key districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj, strengthening the link between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Key Features: Airstrip and Smart Systems
A standout feature of the project is a 3.2-km-long airstrip near Shahjahanpur, designed for emergency landings by the Indian Air Force.
The expressway is also equipped with modern infrastructure, including:
- Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS)
- CCTV surveillance
- Emergency call boxes
- Ambulance services and patrol units
These features aim to ensure safer and more efficient travel for all users.
Economic Impact and Development Boost
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the expressway as a “lifeline” that will connect villages, farmers, entrepreneurs, and young people, accelerating inclusive development.
The project is expected to:
- Boost industrial growth
- Improve logistics efficiency
- Attract investments
- Generate employment opportunities
Integrated manufacturing and logistics hubs, including warehouses, cold storage units, and food processing centres, will be developed along the corridor.
Strengthening India’s Expressway Network
The Ganga Expressway will connect with major corridors such as the Purvanchal Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and Gorakhpur Link Expressway, forming a vast and interconnected road network.
Officials believe this project will play a crucial role in supporting Uttar Pradesh’s ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
The inauguration of the Ganga Expressway marks a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure journey. By enhancing connectivity, promoting regional balance, and enabling economic opportunities, the project is set to transform transportation and development across Uttar Pradesh.
