New Delhi: Taking a big step towards establishing the country as a sports power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the youth across the country through digital medium under the program ‘Khelo India Samvad – Khel Ki Baat, PM Ke Saath’. This massive event organized to commemorate the National Sports Day brought together young and budding players from over 1,500 venues. On this occasion, the Prime Minister outlined in detail his vision, which he had mentioned from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15. He clarified that India’s sports vision is not limited to just being ahead in the medal tally, rather it is a national campaign to build a developed India and hone the potential of the entire country.

People’s perspective changed more than the stadium
During the program, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned the efforts and budgetary priorities of the government. He said that it was because of the Prime Minister’s suggestions on the occasion of Youth Day on January 12 that youth were kept at the center in this time’s budget. The Sports Minister underlined that in the last few years, there has been improvement in the country’s infrastructure i.e. stadiums, but an even bigger change has been seen in the thinking and mentality of the society. Today, parents have started considering sports as a career and a new crop of such youth is being prepared in the country, who have the dream of taking the tricolor to every podium of the world.
International veterans shared their experiences
Many veteran players of the country including Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha participated in this special dialogue. International medal winners like Manika Batra, Dipa Karmakar, Saina Nehwal, Gagan Narang, PR Sreejesh, Mary Kom, Baichung Bhutia, Pullela Gopichand, Anju Bobby George, Karnam Malleswari and Mirabai Chanu shared their experiences with the youth. Following the earlier face-to-face meetings with Commonwealth Games medal winners, this virtual interaction became a means of giving new direction and encouragement to the dreams of young athletes across the country. According to the Prime Minister, identifying talents at the grassroots level and providing them modern facilities is laying the foundation for the future champions of the country.
