On Sunday, marking the second day of his two-day official tour to Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Modi arrived at the memorial site dedicated to the former Indian leader, situated within the Green Park area along Shastri Street in central Tashkent. Stepping up to the site, he laid a ceremonial wreath before the striking bronze statue of Shastri.
To honor the enduring legacy and peace-oriented vision of the late Indian Prime Minister, the local municipal government of Tashkent previously named the thoroughfare Shastri Street and installed his bronze monument. Sharing his reflections on social media, Prime Minister Modi posted photographs of the poignant tribute on X. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that Shastri’s life remains a powerful symbol of national commitment, while his immortal slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,” continues to resonate deeply across generations.

Prior to his visit to the Shastri Memorial, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a symbolic environmental event alongside Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The two leaders planted a sapling together in the gardens of the presidential complex, merging India’s nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree for Mother) environmental campaign with Uzbekistan’s local “Yasil Makan Green Efforts” initiative.
