PM Modi received death threats in Australia, police started investigation
New Delhi: The news of Prime Minister Narendra Modi receiving online threats before his visit to Melbourne on July 9 has come to light. According to Australian media reports, the Australian Federal Police is investigating the matter. Investigators have also identified the IP address associated with the social media post from which the threat was made.
Comment came on the post of ‘Melbourne Meets Modi’ event
According to the report of ‘The Australia Today’ this threat "Melbourne Meets Modi" was written at the bottom of a Facebook post promoting the community event. This event is to be held on July 9 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
The comment made from an account named ‘Abu Mustafa’ read: "The stadium roof must remain closed during the event, otherwise he would be coming to Australia to his death." It was handed over to the Australian Federal Police on the same day the comment was posted.
The police are now investigating the circumstances behind this message and are also looking into whether any criminal case is made out in it. So far the Australian Federal Police has not given any official statement on this investigation.
Security agencies alert, arrangements tightened
According to Australian media, threats to foreign heads of government are taken extremely seriously in Australia. Security for such a high-profile visit is not the responsibility of just one agency.
In this, the Australian Federal Police, State Police and Special Security Units work together. During this visit of PM Modi, along with bilateral meetings, many community programs are also scheduled, which also includes a big event in Melbourne.
After the threat came to light, security arrangements are likely to be further tightened in Marvel Stadium and surrounding areas. The focus of the officials is to trace the location and intentions of the accused through IP address.
