New Delhi, June 11, 2026: Historic announcement Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to make a big announcement during his next visit to Australia. There is a lot of speculation about hosting matches of the Australian T20 League – Big Bash League (BBL) – in India during the 2026-27 season. PM Modi can please the fans by making an official announcement regarding this in Australia. This will be the first time when the Australian T20 League match will be played on Indian soil.

The opening match of the next BBL season can be held at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India. This will further increase the popularity of Big Bash. After IPL, Big Bash is considered to be the biggest T20 league in the world.

After lengthy discussions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association have given permission for the match. It is noteworthy that, a delegation of Cricket Australia had visited MA Chidambaram Stadium to watch the final home match of Chennai Super Kings of IPL 2026; BCCI President Mithun Manhas was also present on the occasion.

Last season, Perth Scorchers, led by Ashton Turner, won the title by defeating Sydney Sixers by six wickets in the final. Batting first, the Sydney team was all out for 132 runs in 20 overs. Chasing the target, Perth Scorchers won by scoring 133 runs losing four wickets in 17.3 overs.
