PM Modi’s address in the Parliament of Indonesia, mentioned the shared relations with Ramayana, Mahabharata and Nalanda.
Knews Desk– Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Parliament of Indonesia on Tuesday. During this, he mentioned the historical, cultural and democratic relations between India and Indonesia and talked about the strong partnership between the two countries. PM Modi said that relations between India and Indonesia are not limited to politics and trade only, but are linked to thousands of years old civilization and culture.
At the beginning of his address, PM Modi expressed his gratitude for being honored with Indonesia’s highest honour. He said that the love and respect with which the people of Indonesia welcomed him will remain one of the most memorable moments of his life.
PM Modi said that India and Indonesia are connected by the same ocean and shared history. He said, “Ramayana, Mahabharata and Nalanda connect us. Names like India, Indonesia and Indian Ocean reflect our deep ties.” Referring to the cultural similarities of the two countries, he said that India’s mantra ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and Indonesia’s idea ‘Bhinneka Tungal Ekka’ reflect the spirit of unity in diversity. Describing India as the world’s largest democracy, Prime Minister Modi said that both India and Indonesia are countries full of diversity. He said that there are hundreds of languages and traditions in India, while Indonesia also has many languages and cultures. Both countries have made their diversity the strength of democracy.
Referring to poverty alleviation, PM Modi said that India is today among the fastest growing large economies of the world. He said that more than 25 crore Indians have come out of poverty in the last decade. He said that when democratic countries like India and Indonesia stand together, it strengthens the world’s belief that democracy can create opportunities for people. On India-Indonesia trade relations, PM Modi said that mutual trade between the two countries reached about 25 billion dollars last year. He said that more than 100 Indian companies are working in Indonesia and there is a lot of potential to increase economic cooperation between the two countries.
PM Modi appreciated Indonesia’s support on the issue of terrorism. He said that when the Pahalgam terrorist attack took place in India, Indonesia stood firmly with India. He said that both the countries are working together against terrorism through the Joint Working Group. PM Modi also mentioned the role of both the countries on global forums. He said that Indonesia became a member of BRICS last year and this year India is chairing BRICS. Both countries can work together to strengthen the voice of the Global South.

He described the shared history of the two countries, from Ramayana to Borobudur, as the strength of the future and proposed to start an India-Indonesia civilizational dialogue. PM Modi said that relations between India and Indonesia are based on trust, culture and shared values. Together, both the countries can set a new direction in the fields of development, security, technology and human welfare.
