PM Modi’s appeal: Adopt clay Ganpati idols in Ganesh Utsav, emphasis on ‘Vocal for Local’

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the countrymen to give priority to such idols of Ganpati Bappa in the upcoming Ganesh Utsav which are made from Indian clay and which have been prepared by local potters and artists.

In his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi said that many people had written letters to him and suggested to discuss the issue that awareness should be raised on Ganesh Utsav from now, as the construction work of idols starts well in advance.

Appeal to promote local artists

The Prime Minister said that while purchasing idols of Ganpati Bappa, it should be ensured that they are made of clay instead of plaster of Paris (POP). He said that giving priority to clay sculptures made by local potters would be a great support to the traditional crafts and artists of the country.

Emphasis on environmental protection

PM Modi said that clay idols dissolve easily in water after worship, which does not harm rivers and ponds and helps in environmental protection. On the contrary, statues made of plaster of Paris are harmful to the environment.

‘Vocal for Local’ will get a boost

The Prime Minister said that purchasing idols from local artisans strengthens the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign and also supports the country’s economy and traditional arts.

He appealed to the people to give priority to environment and local products in this Ganesh Utsav and other festivals also.
