PM Modi’s big message on Sweden tour, India-Europe partnership gets new strength

New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive bilateral talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Christerson in Gothenburg, Sweden. During this, it was agreed to give a new direction to strategic, economic and technical cooperation between the two countries. PM Modi also addressed the European Round Table for Industry and stressed on strengthening India-Europe relations.

Crown Princess of Sweden and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden also attended the meeting. He conveyed good wishes on behalf of Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. PM Modi also congratulated the Swedish monarch on his 80th birthday. During this, Prime Minister Modi was awarded Sweden’s highest honor Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross for his leadership and giving new heights to India-Sweden relations.

India-Sweden relations get bigger status

India and Sweden agreed to elevate their bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership. This partnership reflects democratic values ​​and growing cooperation in many important areas. Both countries decided to take this new partnership forward on four major pillars. These include strategic dialogue and security, new generation economic partnerships, emerging technologies and reliable connectivity, and health, environment and global resilience.

Joint action plan prepared for 2026-2030

The two leaders adopted the India-Sweden Joint Action Plan 2026-2030, which sets a roadmap to strengthen political, economic, technological, security, climate and people-to-people ties. The meeting reviewed growing relations in areas such as trade, investment, innovation, green transition, emerging technologies, defence, digitalisation, space, research, education and cultural cooperation.

Special emphasis on business and technology

Prime Minister Modi appreciated Sweden’s continuous cooperation with India in strategic areas like clean technology, advanced manufacturing, sustainable mobility and digital transformation. At the same time, Prime Minister Ulf Christerson praised India’s progress in the field of digital transformation and artificial intelligence. He also described the contribution of the Indian community to Sweden’s economy and innovation sector as important.

India-Europe FTA will increase economic prospects

Both the leaders said that the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement has opened a new chapter in economic and trade relations. Both sides agreed to quickly implement this agreement and further strengthen trade, investment and technical cooperation.

Discussion on global recovery and supply chain

Regional and global issues were also discussed in the meeting. The leaders stressed the need for reform of the United Nations and other multilateral institutions. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for Sweden’s support in the fight against terrorism. Both countries reiterated their commitment to promote peace, stability, strong supply chains and sustainable economic growth.

PM Modi’s message to European industry

PM Modi later addressed the European Roundtable for Industry organized by Volvo Group. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, big industrialists from Europe and representatives of Indian-European companies participated in this program. In his address, PM Modi underlined the growing strategic partnership between India and Europe and said that the role of trusted partnerships is very important in an uncertain global environment.

India described as a big center of investment and manufacturing

Prime Minister Modi described India as one of the most attractive countries in the world for investment, innovation and manufacturing. He mentioned rapid economic growth, digital public infrastructure and major infrastructure changes. Reiterating the vision of Design for India, Make in India and Export from India, he invited European companies to further strengthen their ties with India.

Focus on IMEC, AI and green energy

Referring to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, PM Modi said that this initiative will give new impetus to the business cooperation between India and Europe. He invited European companies to partner with India in sectors such as telecom, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, semiconductor, deep-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, green hydrogen, mobility, healthcare and life sciences.

India-Europe CEO Roundtable proposal

Prime Minister Modi described talent, innovation and skilled workforce as the important basis of the future global development journey. He also proposed organizing the India-Europe CEO Roundtable every year and creating an India Desk at the European Industry Roundtable. This meeting held in Gothenburg is considered to give new strength to the growing strategic partnership and technical cooperation between India, Sweden and Europe.
