After this, on Tuesday morning, Pakistani security forces used force to vacate the protest sites, due to which the situation turned violent.
What proposal did the government and the army put forward to JAAC?
In fact, there was a long conversation between representatives of JAAC and officials of Pakistan government and army in Hussainkot, Rawalakot. In the talks, a proposal was made by Pakistan to lift the ban imposed on the organization, withdraw old and newly registered cases (FIRs), abolish the Fourth Schedule and give compensation to the families of those killed in the violence. Not only this, the Pakistan administration also indicated that if needed, the proposal to postpone the elections can also be discussed, so that JAAC can participate in the electoral process.
What did JAAC say on the proposals?
However, JAAC did not consider these proposals sufficient. The main demand of the organization was that 12 seats reserved for migrant Kashmiris in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir Assembly should be abolished. The organization alleges that through these seats, big political parties of Pakistan interfere in local politics. Apart from this, the organization is also demanding reduction in electricity prices and other economic reforms.
When was JAAC established?
JAAC was established in 2023 and quickly became the leading voice of civil rights in PoJK. After the big protests of 2024, this organization is continuously running dharnas, strikes and mass movements. According to reports, more than two dozen protesters have died so far in the action of Pakistani security forces, while hundreds of people are said to be injured. However, these figures could not be independently confirmed.
