Threat to JAAC leadership in POK! Tension increased before the march, Asim Munir gave instructions to suppress the movement forcefully
Joint Awami Action Committee Protests PoK: Amid the ongoing protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), it has been claimed that Pakistan’s rulers are planning to target the top leadership of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), so that the movement can be ended. JAAC is agitating against the alleged failure to provide better facilities to the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, rising inflation, political discrimination and administrative neglect. The organization has so far not changed its stand despite warnings from the government and the security establishment.
Asim Munir is under pressure on the government
An intelligence officer has been quoted as saying that the patience of Pakistan’s ruling establishment, especially the army, is now paying off. According to the official, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is in favor of ending the movement and is also pressurizing the government not to succumb to the demands of the protesters.
The officer claimed that Munir had earlier also given instructions in meetings with security forces to suppress the movement forcefully. According to him, after the international uproar over this issue, the rulers want to end the protest soon to show normalcy in the area.
JAAC leadership refused to back down
However, the JAAC leadership has refused to back down despite the perceived threat. The organization has asked people not to be afraid of any kind of pressure and continue the movement. The leaders made an emotional appeal and said that even if all the people of the leadership are killed, this movement should continue as a people’s movement.
JAAC says its movement is against rising cost of living, political discrimination, alleged atrocities against minorities and administrative negligence. The organization has alleged that the Pakistan government is trying to suppress dissent instead of solving public problems.
India is strict on the uproar in POK
India has also expressed concern over the alleged use of force in PoK. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that instead of addressing the legitimate concerns of the local people, Pakistan has resorted to police action, internet restrictions, disruption of supplies of essential commodities and use of force against unarmed civilians.
JAAC is preparing for a big march
Meanwhile, there is a possibility of increase in tension in the area after the announcement of big march by JAAC. According to officials, women and children can also participate in this march. At the same time, Pakistani security forces have imposed a blockade and have warned that strict action will be taken if anyone tries to break it.
