But if alertness is shown immediately after the fraud and a complaint is filed on 1930 in time, then efforts can be made to stop the money from being transferred further. Seventh information – identity related to the thug. Also save the fraudster's mobile number, UPI identity, bank account or other payment related information, if available.

Action in the golden hour, the path ahead may become easier

In cyber fraud, money can be transferred rapidly from one account to another. In such a situation, if the complaint is received early, efforts can be made to stop the suspicious amount through coordination between the concerned financial institutions and the investigating agencies. This is the reason why the police is continuously giving the message to the citizens to complain first and then do the rest of the process. The victim should not wait to first go to the bank and complain, then go to the police or first seek advice from the family. The primary step should be to immediately contact 1930 as soon as cyber fraud is detected. After this, a complaint can be made to the concerned police station and National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal as per requirement.

One mistake and the account is empty, one call and the action begins

Cyber thugs trap people in different ways. Sometimes people are made to transfer money by posing as bank officers, sometimes by posing as police officers, sometimes by luring them with jobs or investments and sometimes by threatening them in the name of digital arrest. Many times fraudsters try to obtain banking information by sending fake links. The police has a clear message that do not share OTP, PIN password or confidential banking related information with anyone. Do not download any app on the request of any unknown person and avoid clicking on suspicious links.

If you are cheated then there is no shame, complaint is necessary

Police say that after becoming a victim of cyber fraud, remaining silent due to shame or fear can be the biggest mistake. The sooner the victim complains, the sooner the investigating agencies will be able to get information about the related transactions. The biggest mantra to protect against cyber crime is to be alert, complain immediately as soon as fraud occurs and keep all digital evidence safe.
