Prabhsimran Singh to Yash Thakur: Analysing Indian cricket team new faces picked for Zimbabwe tour

Indian selectors on Monday announced the team for the upcoming three-match T20i tour of Zimbabwe. Shreyas Iyer is set to lead the side, with Tilak Varma named the vice-captain. Indian cricket team will play all their games in Harare, with the first match set to take place on 23rd July. The second and third matches of the series will be played on 25th and 26th July, respectively.

Sanju Samson has been dropped from the team while left-handed batter Rinku Singh makes his comeback to the team. Kolkata Knight Riders star last played for the national side during the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Rinku scored a duck against South Africa in Ahmedabad and was dropped.

Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has also been rested for the tour. Right-arm pacer Mayank Yadav is back in the side after nearly two years. The 24-year-old played a handful of games for Lucknow Super Giants this year and went wicketless.

Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, and Harsh Dubey are the new faces in the side. It is expected that one of the pacers will be in the fray to make his debut during the series, considering that some of the leading bowlers have been rested.

Here is a closer look at India’s new faces for Zimbabwe tour

Harsh Dubey

Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey could earn his maiden T20I cap during the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. The 23-year-old has played a total of 38 T20 games, picking 34 wickets with an economy rate of 7.5 runs per over. He is also a very decent lower-order batter, having scored 177 runs with one fifty and a strike rate of 114. In the 11 IPL games for Sunrisers Hyderabadthe youngster has picked 13 wickets so far. His economy rate of 10 runs per over could be the only cause of concern.

Ashok Sharma

The right-arm pacer who delivered the fastest ball of IPL 2026 was none other than Ashok Sharma. Pacer from Rajasthan bowled with good speed for Gujarat Titans and cranked up the speed to 154.2 KPH against Rajasthan Royals. Sharma shot to fame with his exploits during the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament last year. The pacer was the joint top wicket-taker alongside Sushant Mishra with 22 wickets.

Ashok uses his height well and also tends to bowl a heavy ball that can surprise the batters. He is also very good in the death overs, where his change of pace can leave the opposition confused. So far, he has picked 28 wickets in 16 T20 games and six wickets in the IPL.

Yash Thakur

27-year-old Yash Thakur is considered a workhorse bowler in India’s domestic circuit. The right-arm pacer is nippy and tends to beat the batters with his skiddy pace. Thakur has been in good form recently, taking five wickets in the Two-test series against Sri Lanka A. The pacer also took 7 wickets from four games during the Tri-Series, which India A went on to win.

Thakur picked 18 wickets from seven games in the SMAT 2025 season with a best of 5/16. He has played a total of 74 TR20 games, taking 110 wickets, and the Vidarbha pacer has also taken 27 wickets in the IPL from 22 games. His notable performance came for LSG, where he took 5/30 against GT in the 2024 season.

Prabhsimran Singh

The wicketkeeper batter from Punjab has finally been rewarded for his consistency with the bat. Prabhsimran Singh has been a heavy scorer across formats in the domestic circuit and has also done well for Punjab Kings in the IPL. 25-year-old has played 125 T20 games, scoring 3665 runs with two centuries and 27 fifties with a strike-rate of 151.

Singh has also played 65 IPL games, scoring 1813 runs with one century and 13 fifties, and has a strike-rate of 156. In the last two IPL seasons, Prabhsimran has managed to score 1059 runs with ten half-centuries.
