Sourav Ganguly biopic ‘Dada’ to release in May 2027, former skipper unveils first look on his 54th birthday

Legendary batter Sourav Ganguly’s 54th birthday was made special after it was announced that his biographical movie was set to release on 14th May 2027. Noted Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is set to play the lead role and portray India’s former skipper. The movie is named DADA – The Sourav Ganguly Story.

Ganguly himself took to his Instagram account and revealed the first look of the movie. The 54-year-old wrote, “The best gift ever! Can’t wait to see you play my cover drive! And tagged the actor in the post. The movie poster had Rao’s face on Sourav’s body in the epic celebration that took place at Lord’s after India won the NatWest trophy in 2002.

For the unversed, former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff had waved his shirt in the air after beating India in an ODI. The incident had occurred during an ODI game that was played at the Wankhede Stadium in early 2002. Sourav repaid the action with his own shirt-waving celebration after India’s monumental triumph six months down the line.

That same year, Sourav led the side to the finals of the ICC Knockouts Trophy (now the Champions Trophy) in Nairobi. Men in Blue unfortunately lost the game to Stephen Fleming-led New Zealand.

In 2003, Team India reached the finals of the World Cup but lost to Ricky Ponting’s Australia in the final by 125 runs. Sourav Ganguly’s other feats include drawing the series down under as well as beating Pakistan in their own backyard in 2004. The player ultimately retired in 2008 after a stellar 17-year career.
