Prashant Kishore Announces Bid for Bankipur Assembly By-Election
Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore on Sunday announced that he will contest the upcoming Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar, marking his direct entry into the electoral contest.
Speaking in PatnaKishore confirmed his candidature, saying, “I will fight the Bankipur Assembly by-election seat.” The announcement sets the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched contest in one of Bihar’s politically significant constituencies.
The Bankipur bypoll will be seen as a key electoral test for the Jan Suraaj movement, which Kishore has positioned as an alternative to the state’s established political parties. Since launching the platform, he has repeatedly advocated governance reforms, improved public services and an issue-based political agenda.
Kishore, a former election strategist who has worked with several major political parties across India, formally entered active politics through the Jan Suraaj campaign after years of statewide outreach in Bihar. His decision to contest the by-election signals an effort to convert the movement’s organisational groundwork into electoral support.
The bypoll is expected to attract significant political attention, with major parties likely to field prominent candidates in an attempt to retain or capture the high-profile urban constituency.
Political observers view the election as an important indicator of Jan Suraaj’s ability to translate its grassroots campaign into votes ahead of future electoral battles in Bihar.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the detailed schedule for the Bankipur Assembly by-election separately.
