Prasoon Joshi: Renowned lyricist Prasoon Joshi becomes the new president of Prasar Bharati, appointed by the Central Government.

New Delhi. Renowned lyricist and writer Prasoon Joshi has been appointed Chairman of India’s public broadcaster ‘Prasar Bharati’. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced Joshi’s appointment in an official statement on Saturday. According to the statement, Joshi, a distinguished creative professional with wide-ranging contributions to the fields of literature, advertising, cinema and public communication, is known for his influential writings and deep cultural sensitivity.

Joshi’s work includes acclaimed film songs, advertising writing and socially relevant stories that connect with diverse audiences across the country. On Joshi’s appointment, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “My hearty congratulations to Prasun Joshi on the appointment of Prasar Bharati Board Chairman. Prasun ji is a prodigious creative genius who has received respect across the world in the fields of advertising, literature, art and cinema, but his heart clearly beats for India.”

Vaishnav said Joshi’s words carry the fragrance of the country’s soil and his vision reflects the eternal essence of Indian culture. The minister said, “Under his (Prasoon Joshi’s) leadership, Prasar Bharati will get new energy, meaningful purpose and a new creative voice. I wish him all the best for a memorable and fruitful tenure.” Prior to this appointment, Joshi was serving as the Chairman of the Mumbai-based Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since August 2017.

The statement said that he (Prasoon Joshi) has contributed to strengthening the film certification processes by engaging with all stakeholders of the film industry and his tenure on the board reflects a balanced approach towards creative expression and regulatory responsibility. Prasar Bharati, established under the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990 and operational since 1997, is India’s statutory autonomous public service broadcaster.

Prasar Bharati has two major divisions, All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD). AIR is one of the largest radio networks in the world and reaches millions of listeners in multiple languages ​​and dialects across urban and rural India. While DD is the national television broadcaster of India, which offers a wide range of programs including news, education, entertainment and cultural content.
