Preparation for big changes in T20 team, Shreyas Iyer may get captaincy; Eyes set on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s selection

New Delhi . The eyes of the cricket world are fixed on the decision of the selectors regarding the upcoming tour of Indian Cricket Team to Ireland and England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is likely to announce the T20 team on Saturday. With this announcement, significant changes can be seen in the leadership structure of the Indian team. According to reports, keeping the future plans in mind, the selectors can take steps towards new leadership in the team and giving opportunities to young players.

According to the information, Shreyas Iyer can be given the command of the team in place of current T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav. If this happens then it will be the beginning of a new chapter for the Indian T20 team. For some time now, Shreyas Iyer has been consistently performing impressively in domestic and franchise cricket and his leadership abilities have also come to the fore on many occasions. The selectors are looking at him as a long-term captaincy option keeping in mind the challenges and big tournaments of the coming years.

It has also been claimed in the reports that a change in the responsibility of vice-captain is also possible. Young batsman Tilak Verma can be given this role in place of current vice-captain Akshar Patel. This clearly indicates that the team management is working towards building a new leadership group for the coming years.

The Los Angeles Olympics to be held in 2028 and the proposed T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in the same year are being considered as the main reasons behind this possible change. The selectors want to bring forward such players who can be a part of the Indian team for a long time and play an important role in the future plans.

The name of young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi is also in the center of discussion. At the age of just 15, he impressed everyone with his aggressive play in IPL 2026. He has attracted the attention of cricket experts and selectors by scoring runs at a high strike rate throughout the season. If he is included in the team, he could be among the youngest players selected in the history of the Indian men’s cricket team. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar had created history by making a place in the Indian team at a very young age.

On the other hand, the discussion regarding the future of Suryakumar Yadav is also intense. Despite being the World Cup winning captain, his recent performance is not being considered in his favor. His batting in the T20 World Cup and IPL 2026 did not live up to expectations, following which reports of the selectors considering new options have emerged. Some reports have even said that he could be dropped from the team along with the captaincy.

India’s tour of Ireland will start from June 26, where the team will play two T20 matches. After this, the Indian team will take part in an important five-match T20 series in England. This tour is being considered an important opportunity for the young players to prove themselves and decide the future strategy for the team management.

  • Now all eyes are on the official announcement. The decision of the selectors will make it clear in which direction Indian cricket is preparing to move in the coming years and which players will be entrusted with the responsibility of the future.
