Preparation for ‘Narrative War’ after Indus Water Treaty? Pakistan’s new strategy claimed in leaked reports

New Delhi. Following India’s stand on Operation Sindoor and Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan is reportedly working on a new “narrative war” strategy against India. Quoting sources and allegedly leaked reports, it is being claimed that Pakistan’s military establishment is planning to create an atmosphere against India through social media, digital platforms and international forums.

According to reports, Pakistan is trying to create an alternative narrative against India at the global level by giving prominence to issues related to Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and minorities. For this, various programs and media campaigns are also being planned in the country and abroad in the coming time.

  • Strategy changed after Operation Sindoor

According to sources, after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan Army and Field Marshal Asim Munir were successful to some extent in creating an atmosphere in their favor at the domestic level. Meanwhile, Pakistan also presented the decision to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize as its diplomatic activism.

However, there is new pressure on Pakistan after India’s decision to effectively suspend the Indus Water Treaty. It is being claimed that in response to this, a new strategy is now being prepared on the information and publicity front.

Focus on media and social media

According to sources, leaked instructions purportedly related to DG-ISPR state that Pakistan military officials held a meeting with media representatives and social media influencers and shared the strategy to highlight issues related to India. It is claimed that in this, emphasis was laid on giving more publicity to the issues related to Khalistan, Jammu and Kashmir and minorities, so that an alternative narrative can be created against India at the international level.

Claim to highlight India’s internal challenges

Reports also claim that some media organizations of Pakistan have been asked to exaggerate India’s economic and social challenges. At the same time, Indian opposition leaders are said to have adopted a strategy of presenting criticism of the government internationally as a sign of instability rather than political democratic debate.

Has been adopting such strategy before also

Analysts believe that Pakistan has been resorting to information and propaganda based campaigns against India for a long time. India has been continuously alleging that Pakistan tries to destabilize the country through terrorism, propaganda and separatist activities.

Along with conventional conflict, information warfare has also been a part of strategic competition between the two countries since the 1971 war. Amidst the recent developments, once again the competition between the two countries is expected to intensify at the narrative and diplomatic level.
