Desk: Mahindra has updated many of its SUVs in recent months. After XUV 7XO, Scorpio N and Thar OG, the company may now be eyeing its popular XUV 3XO. According to reports, Mahindra may introduce the new version of XUV 3XO on 15 October 2026. The company has not yet officially confirmed it, but there is talk that it may come in the market as a CNG version of the SUV.
Mahindra launched XUV 3XO in 2024. After this the SUV got good sales and the company also added some new variants as per the choice of the customers. Now if a CNG model of 3XO comes, then it could be Mahindra's first factory-fitted CNG vehicle. Amidst the rising prices of petrol and diesel, the use of CNG is continuously increasing. In such a situation, introducing CNG SUV could be a way for the company to reach out to new customers. This may also help Mahindra meet the upcoming CAFE 3 regulations.
Currently, the XUV 3XO is available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol MPFI engine. Apart from this, the option of 1.2-litre mStallion turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine is also available. If reports are to be believed, the company can use 1.2-litre turbo MPFI engine for the CNG model. In petrol version, this engine gives power of 111 PS and torque of 200 Nm. It is possible that these figures may decrease on CNG. Manual gearbox is expected to be available in CNG version. However, considering the increasing demand for CNG automatic, Mahindra may also offer automatic option. This has not been confirmed yet.
To install CNG kit, some technical changes will have to be made in the SUV. The company can make changes to the suspension, ECU tuning and other parts. The CNG tank is likely to get space in the boot. Now it remains to be seen whether Mahindra adopts a twin-cylinder CNG setup like Tata and Hyundai or provides a larger single cylinder tank. This can have a direct impact on the boot space.
The current price of XUV 3XO ranges between ₹7.79 lakh to ₹15.04 lakh (ex-showroom). If CNG model comes then its price may be slightly higher than the petrol version. At present, Mahindra has not given any official information regarding the launch on October 15. XUV 3XO competes with Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Of these, Nexon and Brezza already offer factory-fitted CNG option. In such a situation, the entry of 3XO CNG will be a new step for Mahindra in this segment.
