President Murmu along with his North Macedonian counterpart unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Skopje

Skopje, July 22. President Draupadi Murmu and her North Macedonian counterpart Gordana Silyanovska-Davkova jointly unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Skopje Museum on Wednesday.

“President Murmu expressed confidence that this statue of Mahatma Gandhi will become a permanent symbol of friendship between India and North Macedonia,” the Presidential Secretariat said on social media platform X. At the same time, it will also reflect the shared commitment of both countries towards peace, tolerance and humanity.

Also visited Mother Teresa Memorial in Skopje

The two leaders also visited the Mother Teresa Memorial in Skopje. Mother Teresa was born in Skopje and lived there until 1928.

During his visit, President Murmu addressed the Parliament of North Macedonia, held bilateral talks with President Gordana Silyanovska-Davkova and also addressed the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.

Meanwhile, during the meeting held at Villa Vodno in Skopje on Tuesday, the two leaders discussed all aspects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues. Before the meeting, President Murmu was formally welcomed and given a guard of honour.

The Presidential Secretariat wrote on Twitter, ‘President Draupadi Murmu was warmly welcomed by the President of North Macedonia, Gordana Silyanovska-Davkova, at Villa Vodno in Skopje. On his first state visit to North Macedonia he was given a formal welcome and a guard of honour. The two leaders discussed all aspects of bilateral cooperation and shared views on regional and global issues. They reaffirmed deep and friendly relations based on shared democratic values ​​and mutual respect.

President Murmu also laid a wreath at the mausoleum of national hero Gotse Delchev at the Church of St. Spas in Skopje. At the same time, North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristian Mikovski organized a lunch in honor of President Murmu on Tuesday.

President Murmu will visit Romania on the last leg of her visit

North Macedonia is the second stop on President Murmu’s three-nation tour. In the last leg of her visit, she will pay a state visit to Romania from 23 to 25 July. This will be the first visit by an Indian President to Romania in more than three decades.
