Raipur. A major change has been made in the recruitment system for professor posts in the government colleges of Chhattisgarh. By amending the Chhattisgarh Academic Service (College Branch, Gazetted) Recruitment Rules-2019, the state government has now made a provision to fill 75 percent posts of professors by promotion and 25 percent posts by direct recruitment. Earlier, there was a rule to fill 100 percent posts of professors through direct recruitment.
The revised system will increase the opportunities for promotion to become professors for teachers already working in government colleges. At the same time, the posts available for the candidates preparing to become professors in government colleges through direct recruitment will be less than before.
781 posts approved in 343 government colleges
There are 343 government colleges operating under the Higher Education Department in the state. Of these, a total of 781 posts of professor are sanctioned. According to the new rule, 75 percent of these posts will be filled through promotion and 25 percent through direct recruitment. Direct recruitment will be through examination or interview as per the prescribed procedure of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC). At the same time, promotion will be done through Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).
Age limit also fixed for the post of professor
The post of Professor is of first class. For direct recruitment, the minimum age is 31 years and maximum age is 56 years. Despite age relaxation available in various categories, the maximum age limit for direct recruitment will not exceed 61 years. After the formation of the state, for the first time in the year 2021, direct recruitment was done for 595 posts for professor posts in government colleges. However, even after almost five years this recruitment process has not been completed.
2021 recruitment incomplete even after five years
CGPSC had verified the documents of the candidates for this recruitment last year, but the list of eligible and ineligible candidates has not been released yet. After this the interview process also has to be completed. In the recruitment of the year 2021, there was a provision to fill all the posts of professor through direct recruitment. Now after changing the rules, the share of direct recruitment has come down to 25 percent. In such a situation, the vacancies for direct recruitment to professor posts are likely to be limited in the coming years.
Opportunities for teachers of private colleges will also be limited
The new rule may also affect teachers working as assistant professors in private colleges and private universities. There are a large number of teachers in the state who, after completing the prescribed educational qualification and experience for the post of professor, have been considering direct recruitment in government colleges as an opportunity to become professors.
Earlier, 100 percent posts of professor were available for direct recruitment, but in the revised system only 25 percent posts will be filled through this medium. Due to this, the opportunities for experienced teachers working in private educational institutions to become professors in government colleges may be limited as compared to before. After the change in recruitment rules, questions are being raised regarding this even among the candidates preparing for direct recruitment.
