‘Protesting students are not terrorists, action should be taken against those who attacked them’, Rahul Gandhi cornered the government on lathi charge.
Rahul Gandhi’s question, why is this happening with our students?
New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of ruining India’s education system and expressed full support towards the students protesting over the NEET paper leak issue. He said that all their demands including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are completely justified and no compromise can be made on them.
Gandhi said that the protesting students are not terrorists, but they just want an education system that is effective and fair. He also supported the demand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologize to the students and hold accountable those responsible for the attack on the students.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Gandhi alleged that the education system is not only full of rigging but is also beyond the reach of the common people. At the beginning of the press conference, a video of alleged ‘police brutality’ with students during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest on Monday was shown.
Referring to the police action, Gandhi said, “The question is why this is happening to our students.” What have they done that the security forces are pointing weapons at them, they are being beaten and tortured?
Children are demanding their rights
Rahul Gandhi said, they are protesting peacefully and demanding their rights which this country is responsible to give them. They are simply saying that as students of this country – we deserve an education system that is fair. The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha said that children have committed suicide, they go through a lot of stress and this is a legitimate and very serious problem in this country. He said, it is very clear to everyone that our education system, which was considered one of the best education systems in the world, has now become a rigged system.
Papers leaked 152 times in ten years
Rahul Gandhi claimed that papers have been leaked 152 times in the last decade. Every month, Gandhi said, lakhs of students are told that they will have to face the stress they have faced again and ‘we don’t care’. He said that 7.5 crore students have been affected by the deteriorating education system. He said, despite the papers being leaked 152 times, no one has been punished.
Annual examination expenditure of families is Rs 1.32 lakh crore.
Gandhi said, some people are ruining our education system and the lives of our students. Gandhi claimed that the annual examination expenditure of families is Rs 1.32 lakh crore, which is almost equal to the education budget of Rs 1.4 lakh crore allocated by the government. Taking aim at the government, he said, this is sheer looting of these families, and after looting from them you tell them that the paper has been leaked. The Congress leader said the second reason for the students’ protest is that after acquiring education, students are told that the doors which were open for them are now closed.
The demands of the students are legitimate
“So manufacturing is closed, entrepreneurship is closed, corporate jobs are closed, the public sector is closed,” he said. The only option left for them is government job. Then you rig the system and make it so expensive that no one can afford it. We agree 100% with what the students said. Some results must emerge from this. Gandhi said that the demands of the students are legitimate. He said, “They are demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. Dharmendra Pradhan, who is known for corruption, should be removed from his post.
