Tension increased again at Jantar Mantar, police fired tear gas shells; Internet service also closed

A tense situation once again arose during the demonstration in Jantar Mantar and Sansad Marg area of ​​Delhi on Wednesday evening. As clashes between protesters and police escalated, police fired tear gas shells to control the crowd, while mobile internet services in the area were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure. After the incident, security arrangements have been tightened in the entire area.

According to initial information received in media reports, the situation worsened after some people became violent during the demonstration. It is being told that a group of protesters chased a policeman near Park Hotel, after which the police took action to disperse the crowd. After this, an atmosphere of chaos was created in the entire area and additional security forces had to be deployed.

Internet services closed around Jantar Mantar

Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have claimed internet shutdown around Jantar Mantar. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that internet has been shut down in the area, causing panic among the people. At the same time, AAP national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also claimed that internet services have been stopped around Jantar Mantar and deployment of paramilitary forces has been increased in the area.

According to media reports, the government has directed telecom companies to shut down internet services in some parts of Central Delhi in view of the ongoing protests. It is being told that this ban will remain in force till 6 am tomorrow in a radius of about 1.5 kilometers around Jantar Mantar.

Commissioner took stock of the situation

According to Hindustan Times report, Delhi Police said that at least 5 policemen were injured in the latest clash near Parliament Street. These include 2 ACP, 1 Inspector, 1 Head Constable and 1 Constable. However, the number of people injured among the protesters has not been officially confirmed yet. After the incident, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar reached Sansad Marg police station and reviewed the situation with the officials. Police have increased security in the entire area and the situation is being constantly monitored.
