The organization has been formed, now which leaders will get the post of regional in-charge in UP?

Amidst the preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027, the brainstorming regarding the appointment of regional in-charges in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organization has now reached its final stage. The party is working on a strategy to achieve caste and social equations in six organizational areas. According to sources, the names of Rajesh Chaudhary in the West, Dilip Patel and Geeta Shakya in Braj, Geeta Shakya or Ram Pratap Singh in Awadh, Abhijat Mishra in Kanpur, Upendra Rawat and Shankar Lal Lodhi in Gorakhpur are prominently discussed.

BJP may soon take a final decision on these appointments. This time BJP wants to appoint regional in-charges not only on the basis of organizational experience, but keeping in mind the caste and regional balance. To respond to Samajwadi Party’s PDA campaign, the party is working on a strategy to give representation to different social sections in every area.

Who are the strong contenders?

In the western region, which has 71 assembly seats, the name of State General Secretary Rajesh Chaudhary is being considered at the forefront to create a Jat equation with the Gurjar regional president. Apart from this, names of Ram Pratap Singh and Abhijat Mishra are also in discussion.

This time in Braj region which has 65 assembly seats, the names of Dilip Patel and Geeta Shakya are most discussed. The party is trying to solve the social equation of OBC and Scheduled Caste here. The names of Geeta Shakya and Ram Pratap Singh are being said to be the main contenders for the Awadh region which has 82 assembly seats. The organization wants to give priority to strong election management along with social balance here.

Bet on Brahmin face in Kanpur

Abhijat Mishra’s name is being taken prominently to woo Brahmin voters in Kanpur region which has 52 assembly seats. His active role in the party organization is also considered important.

Considering the equation of Scheduled Caste and Backward Class in Gorakhpur region which has 62 assembly seats, the names of former MP Upendra Rawat and State General Secretary Shankar Lal Lodhi are considered to be the strongest contenders.

Since the regional president in Kashi region, which has 71 assembly seats, is from the OBC category, BJP is considering making an upper caste face the regional in-charge. However, a final consensus has not yet been reached on any single name for this area.

The role of regional in-charge is important in election strategy.

BJP has divided Uttar Pradesh into six organizational regions—Kashi, Gorakhpur, Awadh, Kanpur, Braj and West, which include 98 organizational districts. New presidents have already been appointed in all the regions and now the announcement of the names of regional in-charges is being considered as the next big exercise of the organization. Regional in-charges are considered the most important link between the organization and elections. They are responsible for booth management, coordination of district units, implementing the election strategy and implementing the instructions of the top leadership. This is the reason why BJP is considering these appointments as among the most important organizational decisions before the assembly elections.
