Punjab News: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann fiercely targeted BJP and Akali Dal during the 'Lok Milani' organized in village Sheron of Sunam assembly constituency of Sangrur. The Chief Minister claimed that the BJP is preparing to compromise with the Akali Dal on the condition of bringing back the three agricultural laws. He said that the people of Punjab have not forgotten the deaths of farmers during the agitation against agricultural laws.
The Chief Minister alleged that the Akali Dal was ready to compromise with the BJP to gain power. He said that the proposed alliance has no public welfare agenda and its main objective is to gain power in Punjab. He appealed to the people to beware of such political conspiracies.
Punjab University elections also mentioned
Referring to the Panjab University elections, Bhagwant Mann claimed that BJP had never won there before, but this time it won with the support of Akali Dal. The Chief Minister alleged that the BJP tries to take political advantage by creating division between Sikhs and Hindus. He asked Punjabi people to be cautious of such politics.
Enumerate the works of your government also
Referring to the work done after the formation of the government in 2022, the Chief Minister said that his government has focused on many sectors including education, health, electricity, water, sports and roads. He said that the aim of the government is to take Punjab forward on the path of development and provide better facilities to the common people.
The Chief Minister claimed that more than 90 percent of the houses in Punjab are getting free electricity. He also talked about providing electricity to farmers during day time. Apart from this, it was claimed that more than 70 thousand youth were given government jobs without corruption. He also said that many toll plazas have been closed, due to which about Rs 70 lakh is being saved every day.
Told education as the biggest force of change
Bhagwant Mann said that education is the strongest medium of social change. The government has strengthened government schools through teacher training, 'Schools of Eminence' and other reforms.
According to the Chief Minister, only 80 students from government schools had cleared the NEET exam in 2021, while this number increased to 882 in 2026. He described it as a major achievement of the change in the education system.
He said that the government considers education not just a department but a medium to change the future of Punjab. The Chief Minister claimed that Punjab has now overtaken many states including Kerala in the field of education.
Health facilities also mentioned
Giving information about 'Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana', the Chief Minister said that under this, every resident family of Punjab gets the facility of cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh. According to him, the objective of this scheme is to reduce the financial burden of treatment on the people and to provide better health services to all.
He also mentioned 'Chief Minister Mavan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana'. According to the Chief Minister, financial assistance is being provided to women beneficiaries above 18 years of age from July 1st. It was said to provide assistance of Rs 1,000 to women and Rs 1,500 to SC women. The government has made a provision of Rs 9,300 crore in the budget for this scheme. The Chief Minister said that till now 70.92 lakh women beneficiaries have got its benefits and an amount of Rs 181.50 crore is being given to the recently registered 5.20 lakh beneficiaries.
Emphasis on development of villages and youth
The Chief Minister said that the government is also continuously working for the development of the villages of Punjab. 3,100 stadiums are being built across the state to connect the youth with sports and keep them away from drugs.
He said that the aim of the government is to provide better opportunities to the youth and advance them in the fields of education, sports and employment.
Government's claim on canal water and roads also
Talking about the agriculture sector, Bhagwant Mann said that for the first time in Punjab, canal water has been supplied to the fields of 1,587 villages, where earlier canal water did not reach. He said that the government has spent Rs 7,200 crore to increase canal irrigation.
According to the Chief Minister, after the government came to power, the area under canal irrigation has increased from 26 percent to 80 percent. In the year 2022, about 20.89 lakh acres of land was getting canal water, whereas now it has increased to 60.30 lakh acres.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister also said that repair and upgradation work of about 45 thousand kilometers of roads in the state will be done.
Opposition also attacked
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also targeted Congress and Akali Dal. He alleged that traditional political parties have been protecting each other's interests for a long time in their quest for power. Accusing the Congress of internal strife, he said that while the opposition leaders are fighting among themselves for power, his government is working on the development of Punjab.
The Chief Minister also cornered the opposition on the issue of drugs and alleged that drugs had harmed many generations of Punjab during the previous governments. He said that those who promote or protect the drug trade should not get a chance to come to power again.
The Chief Minister said that his government aims to make Punjab a better and prosperous state by strengthening education, health, employment, agriculture, irrigation and infrastructure. He said that the government will continue to work for the welfare of the people in the times to come.
