The main basis of the meeting was the report of AICC observers recently sent to Punjab. The report assesses the leadership of State Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading, the current situation of the organization and the preparations for the 2027 assembly elections. According to sources, it was also discussed in the meeting whether the current leadership should be retained before the elections or a new team should be formed by making changes in the organization. However, at present no final decision has been taken on any name.
Different opinions are emerging on this issue within the party. One section believes that changing leadership before the elections can be a risky move, while other leaders argue that the organization can get new energy with a new face. Possible names include Pratap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Chhanni, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rana K.P. The names of Singh and Vijay Inder Singla are also being discussed.
Punjab 2027 elections are considered very important for Congress. In such a situation, instead of taking any decision in haste, the party high command wants to move forward keeping in mind the political and social equations. Sources say that another meeting may be held in the next few days, after which the picture regarding the leadership of Punjab Congress may become clear.
