Quiet birthday for Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice marked her 38th birthday on Saturday as attention remained focused on her family following the recent arrival of her younger sister Princess Eugenie’s third child.

The birthday celebrations reportedly came at a quieter moment for Beatrice, with reports suggesting that her mother, Sarah Ferguson, had travelled to Portugal to be with Eugenie and support her after the birth of her baby. As a result, Beatrice was expected to keep her own celebrations relatively low-key compared with last year.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that there was unlikely to be any major change in the way Beatrice approached her birthday this year. Speaking to the publication, he described the circumstances surrounding the family as particularly delicate and said that Beatrice appeared to be maintaining a low public profile.

Fitzwilliams highlighted the difficult situation facing both Beatrice and Eugenie, pointing to the wider controversy surrounding their parents. He described the current period as “a very sensitive time” for the sisters, particularly because their parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, remain subjects of considerable public scrutiny.

The royal commentator also noted that Beatrice and Eugenie occupy a somewhat unusual position within the Royal Family. Unlike senior working members of the monarchy, the sisters do not undertake official royal duties on a regular basis. This, he suggested, makes it important for them to handle public appearances and family events with particular caution.

Despite the subdued circumstances surrounding Beatrice’s birthday, members of the extended royal circle have continued to show their support for Eugenie following the birth of her third child.

Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, was among the many people who reacted to Eugenie’s announcement on Instagram. His interaction with the post highlighted the close family connection between the sisters and their respective families at a significant moment for Eugenie.

James Middleton, the brother of Catherine, Princess of Wales, also showed his support by liking Eugenie’s Instagram post, which featured a photograph of her newborn baby. His reaction was another indication of the warm ties that exist between different branches of the wider royal family.

The arrival of Eugenie’s third child has therefore brought renewed attention to the family, even as Beatrice reaches another personal milestone. Rather than placing herself at the centre of public celebrations, however, Beatrice appears to be approaching her birthday with restraint.

The circumstances surrounding her family have made this a particularly complicated period for both sisters. With Eugenie adjusting to life with a new baby and Sarah Ferguson reportedly offering support in Portugal, Beatrice’s quieter birthday may reflect the family’s desire to keep private matters away from unnecessary public attention.

For Beatrice, turning 38 therefore comes at a time of significant family developments. While the occasion would ordinarily attract attention, the focus this year has largely remained on Eugenie and her newborn, allowing Beatrice to mark her birthday in a more understated manner.
