Quinta Brunson set to bring Betty Boop to life in new feature film

One of animation’s most iconic characters is getting a fresh cinematic revival, with Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson attached to develop and star in a new Betty Boop film, as per Variety.

Currently in development, the film will be produced alongside Mark Fleischer, grandson of Betty Boop creator Max Fleischer, and is expected to explore the character’s journey from her early animated shorts to becoming a worldwide pop culture icon.

In addition to starring and developing the project, the 36-year-old actress will produce the film through Fifth Chance Productions alongside Erin Wehrenberg, head of creative affairs, as Betty Boop gears up for her first major big-screen role in decades.

The project will delve into the dynamic between Max Fleischer and Betty Boop, weaving together artistic aspirations and commercial demands as the character evolves beyond her creator, Variety reported.

“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche,” Quinta described. “She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century.”

Abbott Elementary currently has five seasons, with its fifth season premiering on October 1, with the 22 episode installment concluding on April 22.
