Rahul Gandhi Dharna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had gone to DCP office of Delhi to get information about the investigation into the use of pellet guns during the CJP movement.

Rahul Gandhi Dharna: New Delhi. Congress leader and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached Sansad Marg police station in Delhi on Friday. He had gone to Jantar Mantar to seek information about the investigation into the case of alleged pellet gun use during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) agitation. Rahul Gandhi also brought with him Sahil Lochab, who claimed to have been injured by a pellet gun. Rahul alleged that FIR has not been registered yet in the case. After getting information from the police, he sat on strike outside the police station. Many senior Congress leaders also reached with him.

Information about investigation sought from DCP office

Rahul Gandhi had gone to DCP office to meet Joint CP of Delhi Police Nupur Prasad. According to reports, he put forward several complaints related to the matter to the authorities and demanded action. Rahul wanted to know at what stage the investigation into the pellet gun case has reached and what action has been taken so far. When he came out after the conversation, he started protesting outside the police office. A chair was set up for him on the spot. After this a large crowd of media persons and security personnel gathered.

 

Many big Congress leaders including Priyanka Gandhi arrived

As soon as information about Rahul Gandhi’s protest was received, many senior Congress leaders started reaching the spot. Many leaders including Priyanka Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, Salman Khurshid and Jairam Ramesh supported Rahul Gandhi. Other party leaders including Randeep Singh Surjewala and Kumari Selja were also present on the spot.

Congress is trying to raise the issue of student movement and alleged police action prominently from the streets to the Parliament. The party is trying to put political pressure on Delhi Police as well as the Central Government through this case.

Congress’s allegation was not lodged in the FIR

It has come to light that a complaint has been taken by the police. Police say that the crime branch is investigating the case. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi alleges that despite the complaint, FIR has not been registered yet. With this demand they staged a protest outside the police office.

It has also been told by the police that the investigation of the case is going on and the high powered committee constituted by the Supreme Court will also investigate the entire incident. In such a situation, the police will also keep in mind the committee report and the court’s instructions in this matter.

Rahul Gandhi’s dharna is being seen as an aggressive strategy of Congress on student issue. Even before this, Rahul Gandhi had sat on strike outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Even during that time, a large number of Congress leaders had come in his support and the police had to take action to remove him from there.

The party alleges that accountability should be fixed regarding the complaints of students and alleged police action.

This entire matter is related to the CJP’s march taken out from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament on 20th July. During this time there was a clash between the protesters and the police. The protesters were reportedly accused of firing pellet guns or plastic pellets.

Delhi Police had denied the use of pellet guns. However, a general diary entry that emerged later mentioned the Rapid Action Force firing two rounds of plastic pellets from an anti-riot gun. According to the report, this action was taken on the instructions of a DCP rank officer.

SC formed high powered committee

The Supreme Court has also formed a five-member High Powered Inquiry Committee to investigate the alleged excesses of the police during the student movement and the violence against policemen by the protesters. The court had given an order in this regard on August 18, which was later uploaded.

The committee is headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice R. Subhash Reddy will do. The committee is also to investigate violence by protesters as well as allegations of excessive use of force by police and security forces.

Justice R in the high powered committee. Apart from Subhash Reddy, former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Ravi Shankar Jha, former judge of Delhi High Court Justice Shalindar Kaur, former CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla and retired DGP of Meghalaya L.R. Bishnoi are included.

The committee will investigate the alleged use of pellet guns, excessive force and police action against the protesters. Along with this, the allegations of violence made by the protesters against the policemen have also been kept under investigation.

Due to Rahul Gandhi’s strike, the issue of pellet guns has again come to the center of political debate. Congress is demanding registration of FIR and fixing of responsibility. The police say that the crime branch is investigating the case.

A five-member committee of the Supreme Court will also conduct an independent investigation into the entire incident. In such a situation, the further picture in this matter is expected to become clear from the police investigation and the report of the Supreme Court committee.
