Ruling party objects to the words ‘idiot’ and ‘blind devotee’
Controversial words omitted after uproar
Rahul Gandhi News Marathi: During the discussion on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill in the Lok Sabha today (July 29, 2026), there was a huge uproar over the speech of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. While referring to a conversation with a student in the speech, Rahul Gandhi mentioned the words ‘student’, ‘idiot’ and ‘blind devotee’. The ruling party members strongly objected to these words, creating an atmosphere of chaos in the House. After that, the relevant comment was omitted from the official record of the proceedings of the Lok Sabha.
At the beginning of his speech, Rahul Gandhi mentioned a conversation he had with some young students. At this time, he said that a student defined ‘student’ as a person who learns with an open mind, listens to the views of others and is ready to accept the truth. The student also told him about another type of people. These people consider themselves omniscient, do not listen to the opinions of others and pride themselves on knowing everything. Rahul Gandhi asked the student what she called such people. He mentioned that the student replied, “I call them idiots.”

After this statement, the ruling party members strongly opposed it. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju objected to the use of unparliamentary words and demanded that Rahul Gandhi withdraw the word.
To this, Rahul Gandhi clarified that, “I do not call any member of the House ‘idiot’. I am referring to a conversation I had with a student,” he said. After this, he again mentioned the conversation he had with the student and said that she had also used the term ‘fanatic’. According to him, the student had said three things – ‘student’, ‘idiot’ and ‘fanatic’. Even after this mention, the ruling members objected again and created a ruckus.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla asked Rahul Gandhi to focus on the discussion on the bill. At the same time, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh intervened and requested that Rahul Gandhi be allowed to speak, but demanded that the word ‘idiot’ be removed from the official record of the House. The Speaker accepted this demand and directed that the relevant word be removed from the proceedings of the Lok Sabha. After this incident, there was a ruckus in Parliament for some time. Rahul Gandhi, however, reiterated that he had not used the word addressing any MP but was referring to the conversation he had with the student.
