On the day of festive holidays in the stock market, a very encouraging news has emerged for the investors of government railway Navratna companies. Another big work order has landed in the kitty of 'RailTel Corporation of India Ltd', a leading telecom and network infrastructure PSU under the Ministry of Railways. According to an exchange filing, RailTel has received a new network infrastructure contract from Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (HARTRON) worth approximately ₹47.40 crore (including taxes). Due to continuously winning new government projects, the company's order book has registered a huge increase of about ₹ 293 crore in just one week. On the other hand, due to the recent consolidation in the stock market, this railway PSU stock has seen a significant correction from its 52-week high level and is trading at an attractive discount. This new contract awarded to RailTel is in the form of a 'Rate Contract', under which the company will handle the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of structured LAN systems for various administrative departments of the state government spread over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi-NCR region. The last deadline to complete this project has been set as 18 April 2028. Its purchase orders will be issued from time to time as per the requirements of the administrative departments, which will help RailTel achieve continuous revenue flow for the next two years. Order book filled with orders worth ₹ 293 crore in a week. This third week of October has proved to be very good for RailTel in terms of order inflow. Not only today's order of ₹47.40 crore, but earlier the company had received a mega project worth ₹167.52 crore from the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB Secunderabad), under which services related to recruitment management and examination conduct are to be provided. Apart from this, about ₹ 19 crore has been received from Health Insurance TPA of India and contracts related to digital connectivity and cyber security from other government undertakings. If all these recent work orders are added, then new projects worth more than ₹ 293 crore have been added to the company's account in the last seven days. Analysts believe that RailTel's strong fiber network is directly benefiting from the capital expenditure (Capex) being made by various state governments on railway modernization, signaling upgradation (Kavach project), and digital governance. The company's total orderbook has now crossed ₹5,000 crore, providing strong revenue visibility for the coming quarters. Shares are getting cheaper than 52-week high level. Due to profit booking and market pressure going on in railway shares for the last few months, RailTel's share has corrected significantly from its 52-week record high. While the stock had reached its all-time high at a very high PE valuation, it has now seen a decline of more than 25 to 30 percent. Market experts say that when a company is fundamentally strong, has a zero debt (debt-free) balance sheet and is continuously getting big work orders from the central and state governments, then the cheapness of shares from high levels improves the risk-reward for long-term investors. Both the company's Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) remain quite impressive in the PSU space. RailTel, a symbol of government confidence in the telecom and IT sector, operates an exclusive Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network of over 61,000 route kilometers spread along railway tracks across India. This network connects thousands of railway stations located in every corner of the country with high-speed broadband and Wi-Fi connectivity. Apart from this, the company also provides high margin services like Telecom Infrastructure (IP-1), Data Center Services, Cloud Hosting and Video Surveillance Systems (VSS). RailTel is preferred for network expansion by government departments on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and other digital platforms. The steady flow of projects from electronics corporations in the defence, banking and now state governments shows that the company has established itself as a comprehensive enterprise tech solutions provider rather than just relying on traditional railway operations. What is the future outlook for investors? After Dussehra, when the Indian stock markets open for normal trading tomorrow on Wednesday, market analysts are expecting a positive reaction from investors on RailTel shares. However, short-term traders are advised to keep an eye on the broader market trend and the upcoming second quarter (Q2) financial results. From a long-term perspective, Indian Railways' modernization budget, expansion of high-speed Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains, and large infrastructure projects like station redevelopment will prove to be major growth catalysts for RailTel. This combination of cheap valuations and strong orderbook keeps this Navratna stock an under-the-radar stock for long-term portfolios.
