Railway's decision before the opposition's demonstration, 61 trains canceled on 9 and 10 October

New Delhi. Ahead of the opposition's proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Railways has decided to cancel a total of 61 trains on October 9 and 10. These include 40 trains of 9 October and 21 trains of 10 October. Apart from this, timings of two trains have been changed on October 10. This decision of Railways may affect the journey of passengers going to Delhi.

According to the information released by the Railways, Central and Western Railways have canceled or changed the timings of many long distance trains going from Mumbai to Delhi. Passengers have been advised to check their train status and revised timetable before starting their journey.

Many trains including Rajdhani and Duronto canceled

According to Western Railways, the departure timings of Mumbai Central-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12951) and Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin August Kranti Rajdhani Express (12953) have been changed by five hours. At the same time, Bandra Terminus-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express (12247) and Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express have been cancelled.

Apart from this, Dr. Ambedkar Nagar-New Delhi Express (20155), Indore-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express (09309), Indore-New Delhi Express (12415) and Sabarmati-New Delhi Express (12957) have also been cancelled. Central Railway has also canceled Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express (22221) and CSMT-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (22209).

Fear of traffic disruption in Delhi

According to the Railways' notification, this step was taken in view of the possibility of heavy traffic jam around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations following a message received from the Railway Board. Officials have appealed to the passengers to confirm the status of the train before reaching the station, so that unnecessary hassle can be avoided.

Demonstration not allowed at Jantar Mantar

The opposition has planned to protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, Delhi Police has refused to allow the demonstration. According to the police, the organizers had given information about the protest by giving an application to the New Delhi District Administration on October 7. Police cited short notice, law and order situation and possible impact on traffic as reasons for not granting permission.

According to the police, Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) is in force in the New Delhi area, under which gatherings and demonstrations are prohibited during the relevant restrictions.

Controversy regarding revision of voter list

Opposition parties have accused the Chief Election Commissioner of alleged irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and changes in Form-6 related to voter registration. The opposition claims that these steps may affect the fairness of the voter list. The demonstration was planned on these issues.
