Rain and hailstorm alert in hilly districts
According to the Meteorological Center, the weather may remain bad in some areas of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh on Friday. Yellow alert has been issued in view of the possibility of lightning, hailstorm and gusty winds in these districts. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert during inclement weather and not to venture out into open areas unnecessarily.
Apart from this, there are chances of light rain in Dehradun, Tehri, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. The Meteorological Department estimates that rainfall activities may increase in most of the hilly areas of the state in the coming days. At the same time, light snowfall can also be seen in areas at altitude of 4200 meters or more.
Effect of heat and humidity in plain areas
The weather is continuously changing in the plain districts of Uttarakhand. At some places it is raining lightly and at other places the scorching heat is troubling people. On Thursday, there was bright sunshine in Dehradun and surrounding areas since morning, due to which the temperature recorded a rise. The maximum temperature in Dehradun reached 36.5 degrees Celsius, which was above normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.2 degrees Celsius.
However, heavy rain in some areas of Dehradun in the evening gave relief to the people from the heat. Despite this, humidity persisted in many areas, due to which people had to face discomfort. Weather experts say that the same mixed weather pattern may be seen in the state in the coming days also.
Weather will remain active till June 24
According to the Meteorological Center, the weather will remain active in Uttarakhand till June 24. Heavy rains may start at some places in the mountainous areas. Due to this, there is also a possibility of the water level of rivers and streams increasing. The administration and disaster management department have been instructed to remain alert.
Experts believe that before the arrival of monsoon, pre-monsoon activities are intensifying in the state. Due to this, the weather may change suddenly in many areas and there may be heavy rain. Travelers and locals have been advised to keep an eye on the weather forecast.
Administration keeps an eye on landslide and disaster management
In view of the monsoon season, the state government has also started preparations. Principal Secretary Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, after holding a review meeting with the officials, has given instructions to keep special vigil on the possibilities of landslides in the hilly areas. He stressed on further strengthening the early warning system in areas prone to cloudburst.
Along with this, the deployment of de-watering pumps and availability of disaster management resources to deal with the problem of waterlogging in urban and rural areas were also reviewed. The administration says that all concerned departments have been put on alert mode to deal with any emergency during monsoon.
