Rajasthan administration came into action after the death of pregnant women, 24 medicines were banned, these employees were punished

Kota Medical College Death Case: The Drug Control Department of Rajasthan Government has taken major action in the case of death of two women after cesarean delivery in Kota Medical College. On Friday, the Drug Control Department wrote a letter and completely banned the supply and use of 24 medicines in the state with immediate effect. This will remain effective till further orders. In the instructions issued by the department, all manufacturers, stockists, wholesalers and agents have been banned from supplying or selling these medicines until the legal investigation report of the medicines comes. The items banned by the department include medical items like injections, glucose bottles, IV sets, syringes, catheters etc. which are used during surgery and post-natal treatment.

Ban imposed till report comes

Drug Controller Ajay Phatak has issued instructions to Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited and drug vendors across the state not to use or distribute those medicines and devices whose samples have been sent for laboratory testing. The department clarified that these medicines and equipment will not be used in any government hospital or medical college until the test reports are received.

Samples for 24 medicines

According to officials, of the 24 medicines and medical equipment that came under scrutiny, 15 were supplied by RMSCL to Kota Medical College, while the remaining nine were procured locally by the hospital administration. Samples of all medicines and devices have been sent for laboratory testing, and their supply and use will remain suspended until the investigation is completed.

What is the matter?

The administration took cognizance of the death of two pregnant women after cesarean operation in Kota Medical College of Rajasthan and cases of serious health problems of many other patients. After the matter escalated, the medical department ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Initial investigation found negligence on the part of doctors and nursing staff. After this, disciplinary action was initiated against many officers and employees.

In action by the department, Dr. Shraddha Upadhyay has been removed from service. Besides, two nursing staff members and Dr. Navneet Kumar, assistant professor of the surgery department, have also been suspended. Apart from this, show cause notices have been issued to the ward in-charge and other medical personnel.
