Rajya Sabha Elections 2026 : The Election Commission has announced elections for 24 vacant seats in June-July. Also, dates for by-elections to two Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have also been announced. The tenure of 24 Rajya Sabha members from 10 states ends in June-July. The Election Commission has announced the election dates for all the 24 seats.
When will the elections for the vacant Rajya Sabha seats be held?
Elections for Rajya Sabha seats will be held in 10 states where the tenure of existing members ends between June 21 and July 19. According to the Election Commission, voting for the biennial elections will take place on June 18 and the results will be announced on the same day. By-election for two seats
The Election Commission has also announced by-elections for two Rajya Sabha seats. Both these seats have become vacant due to the resignation of the leaders from their respective posts. After the resignation of Sunetra Pawar in Maharashtra, a by-election will be held for one Rajya Sabha seat. His tenure was till July 4, 2028, but he resigned on May 6 after becoming an MLA. Meanwhile, AIADMK leader C. V. Shanmugam resigned from the Rajya Sabha on 7 May. His term was to end on June 29, 2028. According to the commission’s schedule, the voting will be held on June 18 and the result will be announced on the same day.
The Commission has directed to make necessary arrangements to ensure free and fair elections by appointing observers to closely monitor the election process.
