Ram Charan reveals injuries and discomfort while shooting ‘Peddi’: ‘I hurt my eye, legs’

Ram Charan has opened up about the physical challenges and personal discomfort he experienced while filming Peddi, revealing that he sustained multiple injuries during the shoot and spent nearly 50 days wearing traditional wrestling attire.

The sports-action drama is set to premiere on television on Sony MAX on October 24 at 8 PM.

The actor said the film’s demanding sports sequences required extensive physical effort, with the team prioritising authenticity by working alongside real athletes. Actual wrestlers were involved in the kusti sequences, while a national-level runner participated in the running scenes.

Recalling the injuries he sustained on set, Ram Charan said, “I have hurt my eye, legs and many other parts but we expected all this to happen. When we shot for a sport, we always worked with real players. We shot with real kusti players, and for the running scenes we worked with a national-level runner. I enjoy doing physically tough roles so I was prepared for it.”

Beyond the physical demands, wearing traditional wrestling attire for an extended period proved to be a personal challenge for the actor. Ram Charan admitted that he felt uncomfortable performing in front of a large crew while dressed in an outfit he was not accustomed to wearing.

“I am quite a shy person. I wouldn’t really call myself an introvert, but wearing the wrestling attire and working in it for 50 days was quite challenging for me. I was not used to it and here I had to do all of this in front of so many people for 50 days. Whether it was riding a bicycle, working in the fields, training in the akhada, or performing scenes with my co-star, I had to do it all in that attire. It was quite uncomfortable for me,” he shared.

Starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, Peddi blends sports, action and drama against the backdrop of a remote Andhra Pradesh village in 1990.

The story follows Peddi, a gifted sportsperson whose talent earns him recognition in his community. However, when the village and its way of life face a threat, the game becomes a fight for the people’s dignity and pride.

Combining cricket and wrestling, the film explores themes of identity, community and resilience. Ram Charan’s account offers a glimpse into the physical preparation and personal adjustments that went into bringing his character to life.
