Protests, lathicharge and the government’s role
Referring to the 25-day protest led by Abhijit Deepke, Athawale said that the protest had been very peaceful for a long time. He explained that the police did not take any action as long as the students were protesting, but when the students tried to break the barricades and enter the Parliament, the police resorted to lathicharge. However, he sided with the student leader and said, “I do not support lathicharge and this should definitely be investigated.”
Targeting the opposition parties, he said that the Modi government is very serious about the future of students. According to Athawale, the Modi government has brought this bill for NEET. He claimed that the government has listened to the demands of the students and that is why the students are now happy and praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Challenge to opposition parties and predictions for 2029
In his usual style, Athawale did not spare the opposition parties either. He said that no matter how many allegations the opposition parties make, the government will continue to repel them with the same force. He also reminded that he himself had reached this situation after facing lathicharge. Criticizing the Congress, he said that during their tenure, it took a 17-year struggle to name Marathwada University after Babasaheb.
At the end of his speech, Athawale displayed his political strength by saying that without his support, the BJP government might not have been formed in 2014. He confidently declared that Narendra Modi would become the Prime Minister in 2029 and that he himself would be part of that cabinet. Finally, he concluded his speech with the slogan ‘Jai Bhim, Jai Bharat’, which once again started the discussion in the House.
