Why Ranveer Singh is facing a FWICE non-cooperation directive for ‘Don 3’ exit

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has been issued a non-cooperation directive by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) following a dispute linked to his withdrawal from Don 3, escalating the standoff between the actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar.

The decision was announced on Monday (May 25) after the federation reviewed a complaint submitted by Akhtar through the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), where he is a member. The issue had been under consideration for several months and centred on Ranveer’s reported exit from the project during its pre-production stage.

FWICE said it repeatedly sought Ranveer’s response before reaching a decision. Ranveer’s side, however, reportedly maintained that the federation was not the appropriate forum to address contractual disputes.

Pandit outlines dispute timeline

Addressing a press conference, FWICE Chief Advisor and IFTDA President Ashok Pandit said the complaint formally reached the federation in April and outlined the sequence of events.

“The issue began on 11th April when Farhan Akhtar filed a complaint with FWICE. As the head of the association, I received it. In his complaint, he stated that he wanted to meet us and register a complaint against actor Ranveer Singh,” Pandit said, as quoted by NDTV.

Pandit said the federation also heard submissions from the producers involved with the film and sought Ranveer’s version before moving ahead.

“For nearly two hours, they explained their entire complaint and narrated the sequence of events as to why they had to take this step,” he said.

He added that reminders had been sent to Ranveer every 10 to 15 days asking him to present his side.

Federation cites rules and industry message

An earlier statement issued by the federation had said that the complaint and surrounding circumstances were being examined before a decision was taken.

“During the press conference, FWICE will officially address the matter and communicate its stand and decision after examining the complaint and the related circumstances,” the statement had said.

FWICE President B.N. Tiwari said the matter went beyond a dispute between a producer and an actor.

“A strong message needs to be sent to the industry, even if someone is a superstar, they are not above the rules and regulations,” he said.
