PDS Ration Face Authentication Facility: A new facility has been announced for ration card holders. Face authentication facility will be started in e-PDS from October 1, 2026. After this, if there is any problem in identification through fingerprint at the ration shop, the beneficiaries will be able to verify themselves through face. For this facility, e-PoS machines installed at ration shops will be updated.

Under this, eligible beneficiaries will be able to verify their identity by showing their face in front of the machine while taking ration.
Will get relief in case of fingerprint failure
Many times people face difficulty in getting ration due to fingerprint mismatch. This problem is especially common for the elderly and laborers. Due to continuous hard work, the fingerprints of some people become light, due to which they cannot be identified on the machine. The new facility will provide an alternative route for such people.
Identity verification will be done through face
If identification is not possible through fingerprint at the ration shop, then the beneficiary will be able to use the option of face authentication. Facial verification will be done through e-PoS machine. After completion of the identification process, ration will be given to the eligible beneficiary. This can help in reducing the problems faced in biometric verification.
e-KYC process will also get a boost
The process of e-KYC is already underway to link the identity of ration card holders with Aadhaar. The facility of face authentication is a step forward in this digital system. This is expected to provide convenience to those beneficiaries who have to face the problem of fingerprint failure again and again.
