Ashwin Statement On Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli: Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has given a big statement regarding the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Ashwin believes that as long as both the veteran players want to play and are performing, it is almost impossible to drop them from Team India. He said that the achievements, experience and support of crores of fans of both the players make them different from other players.
Rohit and Virat have great records – Ashwin
On his YouTube channel ‘Aish Ki Baat’ But Ashwin said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are such players of Indian cricket, the decision to exclude them will be very difficult for any selector. He said, ‘If Virat or Rohit want to play further then no one can remove them easily. Both have great records. Rohit has more than 12 thousand international runs in his name and both have won matches for India continuously. He is not just a player, but the hope of millions of fans. People come to the stadium to see him. If even one of them is thrown out, there will be a huge uproar.’
On his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin said that dropping Rohit Sharma isn’t as simple as dropping any other player especially after his recent innings. Ashwin also pointed out that, in India bowlers often don’t receive the same recognition as batters.

difference between batsmen and bowlers
Ashwin also commented on the differential treatment of batsmen and bowlers in Indian cricket. He believes that bowlers never get as much support as star batsmen get.
Giving an example, he said that if Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj or Bhuvneshwar Kumar is dropped from the team, then some people will definitely raise questions, but that issue will not become too big.
Bowlers do not get that kind of support
Ashwin said, ‘If Shami is not selected, Siraj is not selected or Bhuvneshwar is dropped, then maybe 10, 100, 1000 or 10 thousand people will question, but there will not be the same noise as there would be if Rohit or Virat are dropped. Had the bowlers also got the same kind of support, perhaps it would not have been so easy to get them out.’
Shami and Siraj out of the team for a long time
During this, Ashwin also mentioned Indian fast bowlers. Mohammed Siraj last played a Test match against Afghanistan on June 6, 2026, while Mohammed Shami’s last international match was against New Zealand in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Discussion continues on the future of Rohit-Kohli
After the ODI series against England, there are continuous discussions regarding the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. There is also a demand to give opportunities to young players in Team India. However, Ashwin believes that the place of these two greats in Indian cricket is not decided only by statistics, but their achievements, experience and popularity also play a big role in the selection process.
