RCB won the title for the second time by defeating Gujarat in the final of IPL 2026, ‘Prince’ looked helpless in front of ‘King’
New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore has won the IPL 2026 title. In the final match played in Ahmedabad, RCB defeated Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets. With this, Bengaluru created history by winning the IPL trophy for the second consecutive time. Gujarat had scored 155 runs while playing first. In reply, RCB achieved the target in the 18th over itself. Virat Kohli played a match-winning inning of 75 not out off 42 balls.
RCB equaled Mumbai and Chennai
RCB has become only the third team in IPL history to win the title for two consecutive seasons. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings had lifted the trophy twice in a row in 2010 and 2011, while Mumbai Indians had lifted it twice in a row in 2019 and 2020. Bengaluru has registered its name in this special list by winning the final of 2026 after 2025.

History created under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar
RCB achieved a new milestone under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. Patidar has now become the third captain after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to win two consecutive IPL titles. Before the final, many experts believed that it would be beneficial to win the toss and bat first on this pitch. But RCB management and captain Patidar had different thinking. They won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be absolutely right.
Gujarat’s top order fails again
The biggest weakness of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 has been their middle order. Whenever Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler were out early, the entire team faltered. The same story was repeated in the final also. Gill returned to the pavilion after scoring 10 runs, Sudarshan 12 runs and Butler 19 runs. Washington Sundar played an inning of 50 runs and took the team to 155. Rasikh Dar Salaam took maximum 3 wickets for RCB.
Kohli’s ‘Virat’ innings led to victory
It is noteworthy that Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli gave a fast start to RCB while chasing 156 runs. The team had scored 70 runs in the powerplay itself. Iyer scored 32 runs in 16 balls. Tim David contributed 24 runs and captain Patidar contributed 15 runs. But the hero of victory was Virat Kohli. He scored unbeaten 75 runs and made RCB the champion by hitting a six off Arshad Khan. With this six, the celebration of RCB fans started in the stadium.
