Reach Dehradun from Delhi in just 2.5 hours! PM Modi inaugurates Mega Expressway worth Rs 12,000 crore, see all the information here

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has today inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor. This six-lane modern expressway will make travel between Delhi and Dehradun faster and easier. Earlier this journey used to take more than six hours, now it will be completed in just two and a half hours. Let us know when and how we can use this expressway.

Expressway length and cost

This expressway is total 213 kilometers long. It has been built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). More than Rs 12,000 crore has been spent on this project. It passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Big reduction in travel time

The distance from Delhi to Dehradun by old road was about 235 kilometers and it took more than 6 hours. With the new expressway, the distance has reduced to 212 kilometers and the travel time has become only 2.5 hours. This will greatly benefit tourism, trade and daily commuting.

Expressway will start from Akshardham

The expressway starts from Delhi near Akshardham temple. It reaches Dehradun via Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and Saharanpur. Major entry-exit points include Loni, Khekra, Saharanpur, Ganeshpur and Asharodi.

Special arrangements for wildlife

The most challenging part of the expressway passes through Rajaji National Park. A 12 kilometer long elevated wildlife corridor has been built here for the safe movement of animals. This is one of the longest such corridors in Asia.

It has wide pillars, a height of six meters, underpasses, sound barriers and dim lighting at night so that elephants, deer and other animals can cross without danger.

Toll and other information

One-way toll for a car is expected to be around Rs 670-675. A round trip within 24 hours can cost around Rs 1000. Fastag will be mandatory. Some places in the initial part of Delhi may be toll free.

Before the inauguration, PM Modi took stock of the wildlife corridor and also worshiped at the Maa Daat Kali temple near Dehradun. This project will not only provide faster travel but will also provide new momentum to the development of the area.
