Delhi Drone Policy: Rekha Gupta Government of Delhi is going to bring 'Delhi Drone Policy' soon. The purpose of this policy is to deploy drones for many purposes, from keeping an eye on encroachment to protecting women. This policy will also create new jobs. The draft of this policy has also been prepared. Delhi government hopes that this policy will bring investment of more than Rs 100 crore in drones and related activities and will also generate revenue of more than Rs 250 crore.
According to the draft drone policy, drones can soon be deployed in the capital to detect open burning and dust from construction, keep an eye on dumping of garbage and encroachment on the banks of Yamuna, monitor sensitive areas for the safety of women and provide rapid help on emergency calls.
According to the report, the Information Technology Department of the BJP government of Delhi has prepared this draft of the drone policy. It is proposed to spend about ₹85 crore to create a drone ecosystem during 2026-27 to 2030-31. This ecosystem will include manufacturing, research, training, testing and government-led use of drones. This policy also includes a target of creating more than 25 drone companies, training at least 5000 people and creating more than 1000 jobs in the next five years.
Drones will improve surveillance and emergency response
The policy also proposes to use drones for real-time monitoring of air pollution hotspots, industrial smoke, construction dust and open burning of garbage. At the same time, Delhi Police and Home Department can use drones to monitor sensitive and crowded areas, take stock of the situation and take action in emergency situations. Apart from this, these drones can identify sources of pollution, garbage dumping, encroachment and changes in the condition of the river for Yamuna. Corporations can deploy them to monitor garbage collection sites, landfill sites and cleaning works.
Offer of help for skilling and research
In this policy, it is proposed to provide up to 50% assistance in training fees to every trainee (up to a maximum of Rs 5,000) and a stipend of Rs 5000 for those taking training in government institutions. There is a provision to give a grant of up to Rs 20 lakh for special research and development projects and also a grant of up to Rs 20 lakh for setting up a 'centre of excellence'. There is no plan to create any separate regulatory system for drones in this policy. All operations will be conducted under the Central Regulations (like Drone Rules, 2021) and instructions from the concerned authorities.
The policy will be revealed to the public by the end of September
Delhi Information Technology Minister Pankaj Singh told HT that after getting the cabinet approval, we are planning to bring this policy before the public by the end of this month. He said that the government will first make it public to know the public opinion on this policy. The policy will be reviewed again after analyzing people's opinion. After this it will be sent for passing.
