The court has fixed the next hearing on November 5 and till then directed not to take any punitive action including arrest against him.
Tezzbuzz Desk – Congress MP and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor Angomacha Bimol has got interim relief in the sexual harassment case. Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has sought response from Delhi Police on his anticipatory bail plea. The court has directed that no punitive action, including arrest, will be taken against him till the next hearing. Now Delhi Police will present its side in the hearing to be held on November 5, after which the court will further consider the anticipatory bail petition.
Earlier, Delhi High Court had stayed the order of JNU, under which Angomcha Bimol was removed from the job. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani gave this interim order when Bimol argued that no notice was issued before the decision to remove him from service was taken.
The High Court has also issued a notice to JNU on his petition. In this petition, the action of dismissal taken by the university has been challenged. The next hearing of the case will be in January 2027.
In fact, after investigating the allegations of sexual harassment, on October 9, the JNU administration had removed Angomacha Bimol from the job with immediate effect. He was associated with the Center for the Study of Social Systems under the School of Social Sciences.
The internal committee of the university had investigated the matter after complaints were lodged by several female students. Following the committee's recommendation, the JNU administration took dismissal action against him. On the other hand, Angomacha Bimol has denied the allegations against him. Calling the action politically motivated, he has alleged lapses in the process.
Delhi Police has also registered an FIR in this matter and investigation is going on. At present, the next decision of the court on the anticipatory bail petition will come after the hearing on November 5. At the same time, the hearing in the case of removal from job is to be held in the High Court in January 2027.
