Renault Duster 1.0 Turbo Petrol ARAI Mileage Revealed

Renault made a comeback this year with the launch of the Duster. They reintroduced the iconic SUV in an all-new avatar. The prices were announced only a couple of months ago, and deliveries have also begun. Renault had released the ARAI figures for the bigger engine some time ago. Now, they have officially released the certified fuel-efficiency numbers for the 1.0-litre turbo variant. The official fuel-efficiency figure for this engine is 19.41 kmpl.

The Renault Duster is currently available with two petrol engine options. There is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol option. The Duster 1.0-litre turbo-petrol is available in the lower variants and generates 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual transmission only. Renault claims that the engine and powertrain are comprehensively engineered and tuned to perfectly align with the advanced RGMP platform of the Duster.

Speaking on the development, Dr. V. Vikraman, Chief of Renault Engineering, Renault Group India, said, “The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency reflects Renault’s focus on practical engineering and customer value. The Turbo TCe 100 engine uses turbocharging and efficient combustion to deliver responsive performance with strong fuel economy. With the 6-speed manual transmission, the powertrain provides a balanced and efficient driving experience.”

The Skoda Kushaq and Taigun that come with a 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine in this segment offer a fuel efficiency of 19.66 kmpl for the 6-speed manual and 19.09 kmpl for the 8-speed automatic. The Taigun on the other hand offers a certified mileage of 19.98 kmpl for the manual and 19.54 kmpl for the 8-speed automatic. On paper the Duster is slightly less efficient than its competition but it has probably to do with the larger dimensions and kerb weight.

The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine has a certified fuel economy of 18.45 kmpl for the DCT and 17.75 kmpl for the manual version. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Duster is actually the same unit seen in the Kiger. However, Renault has tuned the engine differently for the Duster.

Renault Duster is a name that holds strong recall value in the Indian market. It is one of the SUVs that started the trend of compact SUVs in the country. That is one of the major reasons why Renault decided to relaunch the Duster as part of its new strategy. It is a name that many Indians can relate to, and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the older-generation Duster was one of the SUVs that kick-started the compact SUV trend in our market.

In its new avatar, the SUV continues to offer a rugged, SUV-like exterior design along with neatly integrated modern touches. The new Duster offers several features that have now become common in this segment, including a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, leatherette upholstery, a large floating touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and more.

The new Duster comes with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available in the lower variants and comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox only.

The other option is the segment’s most powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is offered with both manual and DCT gearbox options. Renault also has a strong-hybrid variant of the Duster in its lineup, and it is expected to be launched by the festive season this year. It uses a 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with a 1.8 kWh battery pack. This is claimed to be one of the most efficient hybrids in the segment. Renault claims it allows drivers to use the SUV in EV mode up to 80 percent of the time when driven in the city.
