76 year old retired woman feeds 400 monkeys every week, her life becomes an example of service
Animal Welfare: An inspiring story of humanity and animal love has emerged from Tirupparankundram region of Tamil Nadu. Here a 76-year-old retired police officer named Malti has been feeding hundreds of monkeys regularly for the last several years. Every Saturday, as soon as noon comes, the monkeys living in the temple premises and the surrounding hills gather after hearing his voice.
Malti spends a large part of her pension on feeding these animals and considers it an important aim of her life. This unique service of his has now become a topic of discussion among the local people and on social media.

76 year old woman feeds 400 monkeys with her pension
Malti took retirement in the year 2010. During his career he served in the Tamil Nadu Police Department for 33 years. Apart from this, she has also worked as Director of Physical Education in Gandhigram University and in an international school in Kodaikanal. In the year 2015 he observed a large number of monkeys struggling for food in Tirupparankundram Murugan Temple and surrounding areas.
After this he decided to help these animals. Initially she used to go there daily and feed the monkeys, but due to increasing age and health related problems, she now continues this service every Saturday. She goes to six different places including the temple complex, Saravana Poigai, Mayil Thoppu and around the fort to feed the monkeys.

Serving animals gives mental peace and happiness
According to Malti, about 350 to 400 monkeys live in these areas and on hearing their voice on Saturday, a large number of monkeys come for food. These include everyone from small children to big monkeys. Malti says that serving these animals gives her mental peace, happiness and purpose in life.
She says that as long as her health permits, she will continue this service. She told that the trust and affection of monkeys gives special meaning to her life and she wishes to continue doing this work till the end of her life. His story presents a beautiful example of compassion, service and animal love in the society.
