Review meeting of Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme concluded, instructions to give compensation to farmers in 10 days

A meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee of the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme was organized in the public hearing room at the Collectorate on Thursday under the chairmanship of District Magistrate BN Singh. During the meeting, the District Magistrate directed the representative of SBI General Insurance Company to provide compensation for crop damage to the farmers within a maximum of 10 working days. He also said that compensation should be ensured in a time bound manner to every farmer falling in the eligible category.
Deputy Agriculture Director, Sonbhadra informed that in Kharif year 2025, 19,080 farmers of the district had got crop insurance done. Under this, a total compensation amount of Rs 826.98 lakh has been transferred to 6,425 farmers on individual and crop cutting basis. The remaining amount of Rs 151.00 lakh is pending due to Aadhaar based process, which is under process. He said that due to untimely rains and hailstorm in Kharif 2025, a total of 11,483 online applications were received, out of which 8,432 applications were found eligible and payment was made, while 3,051 applications were rejected due to ineligibility.
The District Magistrate took information from the insurance company about the process of filing complaints for farmers. It was told that in case of personal injury, farmers can lodge a complaint within 72 hours on the Government of India’s toll free number 14447. Expressing displeasure over the delay in survey of pending claims, the District Magistrate directed that if the survey is not conducted on time, payment of all 4,764 pending claims should be ensured to the farmers. It was also informed in the meeting that more than 5,000 additional farmers have got insurance in Kharif 2025 compared to Kharif 2024.
The District Magistrate directed the Leading District Manager, Indian Bank to ensure that maximum number of KCC holder farmers are insured in Kharif 2026 and their data should be uploaded on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Portal in time. He clarified that if data feeding is not done on time, the concerned bank will be responsible. The District Magistrate directed the insurance company to do wide publicity of the scheme at the Gram Panchayat level through Kisan Pathshalas, pamphlet distribution, bike rallies etc., so that more and more farmers can avail the benefits of the scheme.
