Review of relations between Bahrain and USA, new strategy regarding security and trade

Bahrain and America have held important discussions to improve their bilateral relations. In this meeting, both the countries focused on security, economic cooperation and regional stability. America has made it clear that it is fully committed to the security of Bahrain.

Security and strategic dialogue

On June 25, 2026, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. During this, there was discussion on C-SIPA agreement and safe movement in the Strait of Hormuz. Marco Rubio condemned the attacks on Bahrain by Iran and said the United States stands firmly with the people of Bahrain.

Along with this, Rubio addressed Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Also held a meeting with Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. He co-chaired the GCC-US Joint Ministerial Meeting and discussed the MoU between the US and Iran. He stressed that it is necessary to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons and the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz should continue without any restrictions.

Important meetings and economic cooperation

A roundtable meeting was held in Washington on 13 June 2026, led by Bahrain’s Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa. Regional security and keeping sea routes safe were discussed in this meeting.

On the economic front, on 19 April 2026 Bahrain’s Finance Minister Sheikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa met US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. The two leaders talked about enhancing financial cooperation and creating new economic opportunities.

Earlier, the fifth US-Bahrain Strategic Dialogue was organized on 26 January 2026. In this conversation, the progress of Gaza Peace Plan, Abraham Accords and the Enhanced Border Security Agreement signed in September 2025 was reviewed. Also, a decision was taken to increase education and English language partnership.

Major agreements and rules

  • C-SIPA: This agreement is the main basis of strategic cooperation between the two countries.
  • US-Bahrain FTA: This trade agreement is in force since 2006, due to which both the countries are getting commercial benefits.
  • Enhanced Border Security Agreement: It was signed in September 2025, the purpose of which is to stop drugs, smuggling and terrorism.
  • International Maritime Security Construct: Bahrain was the first country in the Gulf region to join this US initiative in August 2019.
