Indian actress Richa Chadha had praised Salman Khan after his remarks on trolling and body-shaming were featured in a Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar promo. The actor had also spoken about the comments women faced about their bodies after becoming mothers.
Salman had addressed online trolling without naming anyone. He had referred to comments about a person’s weight, appearance, family and motherhood.
“Why do you want to troll? On his weight, on his looks, on his food, on someone's smile, on someone's flop, on someone's mother's bane, you are showing your upbringing,” he had said.
His comments had drawn attention after Katrina Kaif faced online criticism over her appearance and weight following her appearance at the Ambani family’s Ganpati celebrations with Vicky Kaushal.
Reacting to Salman’s remarks, Richa had told News18 that she appreciated what he had said. She had also criticised people who targeted new mothers over changes in their bodies.
“I didn’t know he spoke about it but it’s great! It’s a magnanimous thing to do,” Richa had said.
She had further spoken about the experience of motherhood and the criticism faced by women over their appearance.
“They cannot exist without us. All of them came from a womb. In the natural order of things, if you start to make fun of mothers, it backfires very badly,” she had said.
Richa had also referred to people who commented on women’s bodies, saying, “Every single individual, who sat with a stupid paunch and a receding hairline and made comments on women’s bodies, is unhappy with their own body.”
The Heer Mandi actress had previously spoken about body shaming and had discussed her own experience with an eating disorder during her Bollywood career. She had also spoken against online criticism aimed at other actresses over postpartum weight changes.
Meanwhile, Richa had been preparing for her non-fiction YouTube series company. She had created, written, produced and hosted the show, which followed her postpartum journey and featured a more natural side of her life.
Speaking about the project, she had said, “I can’t bother about vanity here. I can’t think that I’m overweight from the last time people saw me… I’m making a show about my postpartum journey.”
She had also explained that the series had included filming in areas such as Dharavi, where she had chosen a simpler appearance while working on the show.
